Superstar!

Finally.

Something on Channel U's Project Superstar from me.

Ooohh yeah. I'm an ardent fan of Project Superstar and I am not shy to admit it... lah. Hee.

So anyway, last night was the grand finals and I can't really say who I think should have won, because both finalists have their own strengths.

I have heard people say Kelly should win and Kelvin should not, because Kelvin is visually handicapped and will present (note: not face) a lot of difficulties... He doesn't sing as well as Junyang/Kelly/some of the other contestants... and all sorts of other comments but..

What exactly constitutes a superstar?

I mean, when these people made these comments, did they ask themselves, what makes a singer a superstar?

We've seen some contestants who can sing quite well or even better than both finalists being booted out of the competition (eg, my personal favourite, Derrick) so what does this say about having lots of singing talent?

It all comes down to zero if you haven't got this mass appeal.

I mean, who wants to sign on a singer who no doubt can sing very well but doesn't have any commercial value? What makes a singer a superstar without fans?

I think ... I'm starting to digress and get incoherent. Ha ha ha.

Anyway what I wanted to write about was, Kelvin's singing almost always makes me want to cry. Why? I really don't know.

When I first heard him sing at the auditions, I teared, just a little.

When I heard him sing 我真的受伤了 last night, I cried. Along with the judges. I do not know what is it about his singing that touches people in their hearts. I just know that he is the only one, out of all the contestants, who can touch people so much that it brings tears to their eyes. Agree??!!!!?!

I don't really care who won, actually. I followed Project Superstar because I like to listen to good singing.

But, honestly, I feel it was a pity that Derrick wasn't one of the finalists. BOOHOOHOO!!! I really like his voice! But as a colleague very aptly put it, maybe this whole competition was kinda lop-sided (oops) and he got booted out just before the finals because his market value was low compared to Kelvin and Junyang; because he is too young and has not completed National Service. Note: that's 2.5 years. No record company would want to wait so long. This is money you know.

I really, really think Derrick sings better than both Kelvin and Junyang.
