of cute guys and CT scans

Sometime beginning of Aug, a whole bunch of Japanese expats arrived in the company. I had difficulty (still having actually) remembering their family names (since Japanese usually introduce themselves by family names AND we address them by family-name-san) and I had no photo org chart to rely on!! wtf.. anyway, this nerdy-cute kinda guy took the workstation beside me and we never really talked until Monday when I had to work late and he too (Japanese are ALWAYS working late anyway) so he made some small talk seeing that I rarely stayed past 7pm and then I noticed that hey! no specs!! Cute-ness indicator up 70%.

Ok, enough with cute guys. It's distracting.

Anyway the husband started a new job with shifts and frankly it's depressing. His energy level is a lot lower than before and he spends his time sleeping because of either an early shift the next morning or a late shift in the afternoon. Whatever it is, he gets shorter hours at work but more time away from me. That's sad. I can't get used to waking up on that bed all by myself and not having someone to kiss before I leave for work. He says he kisses me a lot..... when I'm asleep in the middle of the night and he has to wake up to get ready for work. The problem is, I'm totally unaware of all that affection and I am so deprived!!

It makes me so cranky and... well... I guess it just takes some getting used to.

So I had this stupid headache for 7 days straight and I ended up with a referral to the neurologist and a CT scan with contrast done. Let's recount the series of events that happened yesterday. On a sidenote, I am so glad he had the day off to accompany me at the hospital.

First it was the consultation. Seriously, wassup with assuming I don't know about migraine headaches? Is it really so strange that I am oblivious to what triggers a headache? The pain doesn't get worse. It just starts. And painkillers don't help. I don't have any "aura" and I'm not sensitive to lights and noise and whatever common triggers of migraine headaches.

Anyway... the doc ordered a CT scan with contrast and it could be done immediately. That was kinda scary because the husband also had a CT scan done previously and we had to like call the radiology department to make a separate appointment on a separate day. It just didn't seem like the kind of investigative test that could be done on demand. So we were sent down to the neuroradiology department and made payment and waited for my turn.

There was absolutely no briefing on how it was going to be done, as though it was assumed that I would have done it numerous times like any other kind of investigative procedure such as a blood test or blood pressure measurement, you know? Before I knew it, my name was being called and the technician asked a few questions on my current medical situation, things like pregnancy, diabetes etc. Absolutely no cue that the scan was about to be done. While we were talking, she led me into a room with a machine that has this long narrow bed and a tunnel-like kind of thing. I was expecting to change out of my clothes and wear a funny gown with a shower cap but no, none of this. I was asked to put on a shower cap and lie down on the long narrow bed. Oh did I mention yet that there were like 5-6 people in the room? It was intimidating; like it was a surgery. And then someone came to me and put a tourniquet on my arm and told me to grip and relax my hands. This was for the plug for the intravenous contrast fluid which I didn't know it was going to be administered this way!!! Scary x50.

I was instructed to close my eyes just before the insertion of the needle for the IV fluids. Scary x100.

It hurt like a bitch, ok. It was really painful. The bed started moving into the tunnel and I tried to sneak a peek. Then the instruction "Close your eyes.." came. Scary x150.

Then there was some noise and the bed started moving out of the tunnel thingy. I opened my eyes again and then was told to close it. The tech told me that scan we just did was without the contrast fluid (wtf?) and now we were going to do the scan with the contrast fluid. Ok, I thought the contrast thingy was done already because I had a funny taste and smell in the back of my throat just now when the first scan was being done. So anyway, the bed started moving again and the tech said there will be a warm feeling when the contrast fluid starts flowing into my body and... there.. the warm feeling came... from my arm to my head down to the rest of my body. It felt nice and I tried to stay still. And then it was done! The plug was removed and it hurt another x50 and I was told to wait for 10 minutes for any adverse reactions to the contrast fluid and I was good to go.

The husband took me to have cake and coffee and a movie to make up for lost times after the scan and ... the movie was great. The company was even better. I just love him so much.
